First Look: Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice

As is often the case before big premieres, a glut of images begin to emerge on fan sites. And today it’s the big one – Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, which is set to world premiere at NYFF next month.

Via the awesome PTA fan site Cigarettes & Red Vines, we’ve glimpsed the characters from PTA’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice, a wildly hilarious neo-noir set in late 60s/early 70s L.A. following a stoner P.I. investigating a kidnapping in which his former girlfriend is tied up in. Joaquin Phoenix plays Larry 'Doc' Sportello, the unscrupulous detective in question. Other stars in the film include Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson and Benicio Del Toro.

Here are a bunch of stills that should whet your appetite while making you extremely envious of those critics seeing the film next month. Stay tuned.
