L.A.-based filmmaker David Altobelli is best known for his music videos, having worked with the likes of Cults, Hammock, Sia, Philip Selway, not to mention his work with Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the heart-rending short film Abandoned. But now the ambitious 27-year-old is entering the world of short film, teaming up with Grolsch Film Works to present Independence, his latest contemplative and wholly cinematic short.
As part of our ongoing Shorts Series, we've released Altobelli's short film directorial debut on YouTube for all to enjoy. Check it out below and let us know what you think...
Independence is a story about the passage of time suspended in no man’s land, America. In Altobelli's own words: "The film plays out like a song on the piano in front of us, transporting us somewhere unknown and then returning to a familiar place.”
If you're a short filmmaker and feeling inspired after watching Independence, you can enter our Shorts Showcase competition where you can win the chance to be nominated for the 2014 San Francisco International Film Festival.
Keep your eyes peeled for our interview with David this week.
