Surely we're not alone in thinking Kelly Reichardt (Old Joy, Wendy & Lucy, Meek’s Cutoff) is one of America’s greatest independent directors working today? And after directing a string of indie hits, it doesn't look like she's in a rush to direct the next Ryan Reynolds rom-com, either. Instead she's working on another intriguing project that was originally going to star There Will Be Blood actor Paul Dano.
With all his indie cred, Jesse Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale, Adventureland) seems like an ideal replacement - even if his smaller projects have waned in recent years. So maybe this is his way of silencing the critics who presumed he was leaving his indie days behind him after the success of The Social Network and Zombieland, or maybe, for whatever reason, he just wasn't offered a role in Michael Bay's next movie.
According to Indiewire, Reichardt’s latest, Night Moves, centres on three eco-terrorists who plan to blow up a dam. Eisenberg will play the group’s leader, while Peter Sarsgaard will be playing the bomb-maker, and Dakota Fanning the wealthy woman funding the group.
As eager as we are to see this one, it looks like it won't be surfacing until next year’s Venice or Toronto. But as it's Reichardt, we're willing to wait.
