As you're probably all aware, the remake of Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 surf-sensation Point Break has been talked about for quite a while, and no one, it seemed, was really sure what the hell was going on with it. But now, with the news that Ericson Core is on board to direct (he's the relatively unknown director of Invincible), we can be sure that the film will wash ashore sometime next year.
For fans of the film, this is probably not the most welcome news. The main issue being, Bodhi and Johnny Utah (played in the original by the inimitable Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves) will have to be played by DIFFERENT actors. And, well, that's kind of the tricky thing isn't it? After all, can you think of anyone who's capable of filling their sandy boots? ...Aaron Eckhart as Swayze? Jared Leto as Keanu? Oh come on, pull the other one.
We don't know the details of the updated plot just yet, but you can expect plenty of surfing and a clumsy FBI agent undercover who has to develop his skills. Here's a reminder of the original...
Production should get underway at the end of this year so, if we were to make a prediction, we'd say it should be out next summer. But don't hold us to that.
